By the end, you’ll have a comprehensive plan for launching, marketing, and distributing your food business.
How It Works
1. The course is self-paced and you can move through it freely to learn the topics most relevant to you.
2. You can choose from 12 different topics, with a module for each that includes recorded lessons, knowledge checks, and additional resources to help you build your maker skills.
Course Overview
Phase 1:
Product Development Explore food science startup essentials, best practices for developing a successful specialty food product, and how to design for impact. Food Safety Explore food safety legal considerations and gain an understanding of regulations, certifications, and licenses. Co-Packing Discover production options, intellectual property protections, and how to discuss your product with a prospective co-packer. Phase 2:
Branding Discover the ins and outs of branding, building a brand expression, and package design. Funding Your Business Explore the first key steps of funding your business, working with investors, and working with lenders. Pricing and Trade Promotions Learn how to set your products' prices correctly and how to work with retailers and distributors to promote them. Supply Chain Get an understanding of the supply chain continuum and hear from experts on how to navigate the pain points. Trade Channels Learn how to enter the foodservice channel, sell to specialty food stores, and sell to supermarkets. E-Commerce Learn the fundamentals of selling on Amazon, building your own direct-to consumer business, and how online marketing works. Selling Understand how to create and fulfill key performance indicators, how to do a killer sales call, and how to build a sales team for your business. Phase 3
Working with Distributors Learn the fundamentals of working with distributors, including the first key steps, building the relationship, and strategies for success.
